Connect a scrobbler, get a living wall of your music
BeatsVine turns your real listening into auto-updating walls and a live now-playing image. To do that, it reads from a scrobbler. Here is what a scrobbler is, how the two we support compare, and how to connect either one.
What is a scrobbler?
A scrobbler logs every track you play and keeps the history. It sits between your music app (Spotify, Apple Music, your desktop player) and a service that stores those plays. BeatsVine reads that history and builds two walls from it, Recently Played and Most Played, at beatsvine.com/u/yourhandle/earworms, plus a now-playing image you can drop into an OBS scene or a Twitch panel.
You connect a scrobbler once, in Account, Integrations. The walls then fill in on their own as you listen. No manual updating, ever.
Two ways in: Last.fm or ListenBrainz
BeatsVine supports both of the major scrobblers. Pick the one that already has your listening, or the one whose values fit you best.
Last.fm
The default, and the easiest start.
- The biggest scrobbler, so most players and apps already support it.
- Works with private profiles: connecting authorises BeatsVine to read your own listening.
- Quickest to start if you have never scrobbled before.
ListenBrainz
Open, free, MusicBrainz-native.
- Open and free, run by MetaBrainz, the team behind MusicBrainz.
- Listens carry a MusicBrainz ID, so your tracks match BeatsVine pages instantly.
- Connect with a single user token. Your listens are read publicly.
Set up Last.fm
- Make sure Last.fm is already scrobbling from where you listen. If your Last.fm recent tracks is empty, connect it to your music source first. See Last.fm's apps and connections.
- In BeatsVine, open Account, Integrations and connect Last.fm. It works with private profiles, since connecting authorises BeatsVine to read your own plays.
- Your two listening walls fill in automatically from the next poll onward.
Set up ListenBrainz
- Make sure ListenBrainz is already logging your plays. If your listens are empty, connect a scrobbler to it first. Set up a ListenBrainz scrobbler.
- Copy your user token from your ListenBrainz settings. BeatsVine uses it once to confirm the account is yours, then reads your public listens.
- In BeatsVine, open Account, Integrations, paste the token, and connect. Your walls fill in automatically. Because ListenBrainz listens carry a MusicBrainz ID, your tracks match BeatsVine pages instantly.
One scrobbler at a time
BeatsVine reads from a single source. You connect Last.fm or ListenBrainz, not both, because the same plays would otherwise be counted twice. Whichever you connect becomes your active source, and connecting the other later switches you over while keeping the same earworms page and walls. It is unlikely you would want both, since it is one listening history either way.
Streaming or DJing? Give your set its own account
Because BeatsVine reads one scrobbler, the account you connect is what your walls show. So if you stream or DJ and want your walls to be a record of the set rather than your personal listening, the cleanest setup is a Last.fm or ListenBrainz account kept just for streaming. Play your set through a music app that scrobbles, or DJ software with a scrobbling plugin, signed in to that account, and leave your everyday listening on a separate account you do not connect here.
Connect the stream account in Account, Integrations, and your walls become a hands-off setlist of exactly what you played on air, updating live as you go. Nothing from the rest of your day creeps in.
